    FAQs about GMAT

These are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about GMAT.

    1. Which study material should be used?
There are many books on GMAT, but the best book to use is GMAT OFFICIAL GUIDE 11 (also known as OG 11)
Other than this you can try Kaplan (one of the toughest ones). Manhattan Sentence Correction courses are also good. For more details about which books to follow please visit our GMAT Study Material page.
We have a big database of questions which are very close to real GMAT standards. You can use these tests for practice.

    2. How long would it generally take to complete study right from scratch?
Depends on your starting level. You can download GMAT Prep tests and try 1 test on that without much preparation. You will come to know your level. For an average guy, if starting score is 550+ it should take 2-3 months to reach 700+. If starting score is less than 500 then you will need lot of effort to build up basics and that obviously takes time.
Indian applicants are generally very good in Math don’t need much practice for Quantitative section. Most of the effort goes for Verbal. This section is also more of aptitude type, which comes from practice and not from coaching.

    3. Which is the suitable time for taking GMAT?
Any time in year if fine. But usually people start applying for MBA Sept-Oct time frame. Your GMAT score should be available before that. So GMAT booking are on high demand during July-Nov time frame.

    4. Is passport necessary at the time of booking?
Yes, holding a valid passport is a must to appear for GMAT for Indians.

    5. Is TOEFL required along with GMAT?
Most of the schools ask for TOEFL also. Mostly there is a minimum marks requirement of 100 or 105 marks. But there are few accept without TOEFL if your basic education medium is English. In that case you need to get a proof from your college.

    6. Would any coaching or private tuitions help?
We don’t recommend private tuitions or coaching. GMAT is a test which needs a good aptitude level which comes only by experience or practice.

    7. When does the admission procedure of B-Schools in US start?
It starts as early as July and goes till March.

For details about deadlines please visit our page. MBA Admission Deadlines page. This page is continuously updated for application details for most of top Bschools. Otherwise, you can also visit individual school websites for more information.
